Frequently Asked Questions

When are seasonal containers installed?
Seasons in Ohio can sometimes be tricky to predict, in general Spring Containers are installed starting the end of March and early April. Summer Containers are usually installed once the summer heat is consistently here, which is usually end of May, early June. Fall containers are usually being installed end of September through October. Winter containers are ready to be installed late November through December as long as soil can be worked.

*Dates are approximations and subject to weather predictions and schedule which will be clearly
communicated with client.

What can I expect from the different seasonal containers?
Spring Containers are typically installed at the end of March and early April. Plants will look great until there is consistent summer heat. Bulb flowers may need trimmed. Containers may include hellabores, violas, bulbs, moss and willow branches.

Summer Containers can be installed once the threat of frost has passed–usually mid to late May in our zone. Containers will include a lovely variety of texture and colors of plants that can tolerate the summer heat and will thrive if well maintained well until the first frost of fall.

Fall Containers can be installed toward the end of September to mid October. Some fall choices can be tricky. Cool loving mums and kale do not do well with warm temperatures. If we are having a warm fall, more heat tolerant choices can be made and will be discussed with the client. All plants will be carefully selected based on the client’s goals.

Winter Containers can begin as early as mid to late November and will be installed through mid December. A curated display of fresh winter greenery, curly willow, dogwood, birch and pine.

How much will my container cost?
Sow Local charges $100/hr (shopping time included) plus cost of supplies. For an average 18 inch container, a client can expect to pay $125-$175 per container. There are several variables that determine cost. Season, plant selection, supplies, how “full” the client wants the container and difficulty of project site are all factors. Sow Local is happy to do their best to work within a client’s budget.

What is a CSA Flower Subscription?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. The concept is that community members support their local growers and families by purchasing a seasonal subscription. In this case, you would be purchasing a Flower CSA Subscription (or share) of seasonal flowers. By investing in your local grower, you provide the funds up front to help cover overhead expenses. This includes everything from bulbs, seeds, irrigation supplies, soil preparation, and anything else needed for growing flowers. In exchange for your initial investment, you receive locally grown, pesticide free flowers.

What is PPU?  How does pickup work?
Our Dublin Porch Pickup (PPU) address will be provided to our subscribers. Subscribers will update grower on their preferred times. These times are selected to reduce amount of time that flowers will be exposed to heat, sun, environment, etc. to ensure that your blooms remain beautiful and fresh. Subscribers that have a Jar or Vase are encouraged to bring back that vessel at the subsequent pickup dates. Subscribers that are picking a wrapped bouquet are encouraged to bring a jar or cup of water to travel with you flowers and to bring them home immediately and place them in fresh water to ensure a long vase life.

How will delivery work?
Delivery days/times will be sent out at a later date.  If you are receiving a wrapped bouquet, please leave a jar or bucket of water in a shady spot if you can not be home to receive you flowers. Please leave used Jar or Vase from previous orders on front porch to be gathered. **Preferred delivery time may be communicated to Sow Local. We will do our best to accommodate.

How do I care for my flowers?
Did you know that flowers should be kept in water clean enough to drink!? Changing out your water daily will maximize the vase life of your flowers.

What happens if I am unable to receive my subscription because I am out of town?
We ask that you send a proxy in your place to collect your flowers. We do not provide credit or refunds.

Can I share a subscription?
Yes! You can share a subscription, but please have one designee for purchase, pickup, and/or delivery address.

Can I change my delivery address each month?
No. In order to provide you with the best customer service, we ask that each subscription be connected to only ONE address. Thank you for understanding.

How will you communicate with me?
Our subscription members will receive emails from us regarding any updates or changes in your subscription. We will also notify you when you subscription is out for delivery.

What happens if weather or some kind of disaster destroys the flowers?
Our crops are grown outside and we have no control over what mother nature has in store for us. We make every effort to minimize any damage from weather and pests. In case of disaster, we will make every effort to source flowers from other local farms and notify you of any changes via email.
